Queen and Pope help Peterborough couple celebrate

A Peterborough couple have celebrated their 60th diamond wedding anniversary with a special Mass, a Papal Blessing and message from the Queen.

Mary and Bill Collin met in Malta whilst Bill was doing National Service. They were married in Malta on March 10, 1959 and returned to the UK to live in Peterborough where they raised their family.

They returned to Malta in 2009 to renew their marriage vows on their 50th wedding anniversary.

In March they celebrated 60 years of marriage with a special mass at St Oswald’s church, attended by their four daughters, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The couple also received a congratulations card from the Queen and a framed Papal Blessing from Pope Francis.

Both Mary and Bill have recently celebrated their 80th birthdays and attribute their long and happy marriage to always putting the other first.
