Swaffham Sacred Heart School pupils just love to sing

Two choirs from Sacred Heart School in Swaffham have been called outstanding at county music festivals in Norfolk.

Attending the Norfolk County Music Festival at Springwood School in King’s Lynn on March 18, the Lower School Choir (pictured above) was given an "Outstanding Performance' certificate by the adjudicators, who commented that this was a confident group of singers, obviously accomplished and very able musically and that this was a very high quality and captivating and engaging performance. They noted that there is a high standard of very strong leadership to elicit such a high standard. The choir was led by Sarah Pickard.

The Senior Choir (pictured below) took part in the Senior County Music Festival in Norwich's Central Baptist Church on March 15.

The choir was led by Sarah and Charlie Williams, who said: "After a very short warm-up we were shown into the Grand Hall where we thought we would be taken to our seats to listen to other choirs before us. However, we were led right through the audience and straight onto the stage.

"Our choir showed great courage at this moment and simply got ready to perform. Emily introduced our songs, "Pokarekare Ana' (a gentle Maori love song) and "Seasons of Love,' a tricky unaccompanied song from a contemporary musical. All sang confidently, calmly and competently. Before we had the chance to be truly nervous, it was over. I think we all knew it had gone well ' it was our very best performance.

The choir retired to the gallery upstairs before receiving positive comments from the adjudicator, Sue Nicholls, who said: "An engaging performance – exciting, vibrant, great audience communication, tender, intimate and polished."

Charlie said: "All in all, a second "Outstanding' for our school. We do not audition, we simply love to sing great songs together."
